Politics and International Relations alumni regularly support many of our activities. They also provide us with insights into how their career paths developed.
The Politics Student Society also contributes to the wide variety of activities offered, including an impressive range of guest speaker events and networking opportunities.
Politics and International Relations degrees from the University of Exeter will provide you with a number of skills that are useful in professional and managerial careers. Your understanding of complex political and cultural issues, often in continually changing environments, are essential to both business and public sector appointments.

Work placement module options
Politics and International Relations students can select from a range of work-based learning modules offered by the College of Social Sciences and International Studies.
The Learning from Work Experience in Social Sciences modules SSI2001 and SSI3017 allow you to explore a career option which you reflect and present on, linking it back to your degree. This level of flexibility enables you to research a topic of interest in relation to the placement and develop the ability to articulate transferrable skills and experiences.
Students on the Politics and International Relations BSc programmes and/or who have completed POL1041 may take the optional Data Analysis in the Workplace module. This module is designed to allow you to apply quantitative research methods learned in your degree in a professional environment.
If you would like to develop your global acumen and cultural awareness, our Employment Experience placement module gives you a framework in which to gain academic credit for developing workplace competencies.

Teaching experience for undergraduate students
It’s important to understand that teaching is the right career path for you before embarking on postgraduate teacher training. To help you discover if teaching is right for you, or if you're just interested in developing your skills in this area, we have developed an accredited teaching experience module, which is open to all undergraduate students at the University of Exeter Streatham campus.
- Opportunities for involvement in teaching in a school placement
- 15 and 30 credit versions available (involving 1 and 2 weeks placement respectively)
- Can be taken in 2nd or 3rd UG year or during a Masters course
- Open to students from any degree programme on the University of Exeter Streatham campus
- Placements are outside of university teaching time and can be arranged almost anywhere in the country
The School of Education has been providing teacher training at St. Luke’s Campus for more than 150 years. We are renowned for our Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) programmes and education research.
