This module aims to develop students’ personal management skills and experience of learning through work. Students will be encouraged to research and reflect on a range of work-related ‘explorations’ - from the nature of an organisation and their role within it, to the employment practices of induction, health and safety procedures, self-appraisal and continuing professional development, linking this with their own personal development planning. The flexibility of the module allows students to fully explore the links between the skills developed and the discipline of their study. By practising specific skills for employment – including the writing of CVs, application forms and supporting statements – the module aims to prepare students for the world of work beyond university.
Learning from Work Experience Module costs
When you do a work placement there are various costs that you need to consider. Not all of them will apply to every placement, but you should be aware of them and work out roughly what it will cost you before you begin:
- Travel to and from work
- Accommodation, if the placement is too far away from your address to travel to on a daily basis
- Food
Additionally, for international placements:
- Insurance
- Flights/train/coach
- visas
Some placement providers will be able to help you to cover some of these costs, and you should ask before starting if this is the case
As a SSIS College module this module will not count as Modularity when chosen as an option by a student from the College of Social Sciences and International Studies.
