Module Content

Syllabus Plan

While the module’s precise content may vary from year to year, the module will primarily focus on a close reading of two key texts: Hannah Arendt’s, The Human Condition and Jaques Rancière’s Disagreement. We will read these texts alongside other secondary sources and primary texts, which help to place the in context. The pace of the seminars and some of the themes to be covered will be decided in conversation with the seminar group from year to year. Some likely themes include: forms of social exclusion, the nature of conflict, violence and politics, rights claiming, the idea of ‘the people’, and political judgment.
