This advanced level module introduces the key debates in the contemporary governance of risks in policy fields such as biotech, food, finance, nuclear and aviation policy. The module develops a conceptual understanding of the emerging trends in risk regulation in OECD countries and in particular the UK, EU and USA.
It explores some of the main theoretical approaches used to explain risk governance encouraging critical thinking about the relationship between theory and practice, both in terms of the contribution of theory to understanding current risk policies and how well different theories perform when confronted by practice.
This module is only available to students undertaking the Master of Public Administration programme
