This module will introduce you to a variety of topics and methodological approaches in the field of European public opinion research. You will become familiar with the main theories of opinion formation and how they help us to understand stability and change in citizens’ attitudes towards politics. We will also discuss the role of (social) media for public opinion, the dynamics of post factual politics, identity politics, and public opinion towards Brexit. We will review typical data sources, such as large-N public opinion surveys as well novel methods, such as focus groups and experiments.
