The aim of this class is to familiarize you with a variety of topics and methodological approaches in the field of European public opinion research. In the first part of the class we will discuss basic concepts and theories of opinion formation. We will pay special attention to voting behaviour and the impact that parties have on citizens’ political attitudes. We will review typical data sources, such as large-N public opinion surveys as well novel methods, such as focus groups and experiments. A major part of the second part of the class examines public opinion towards European integration.
