Stats Help Desk & P2P

Q-Step offers students a number of different support systems aimed at aiding them overcome any issues they may encounter in regards to areas such as statistics and programming.

In the first instance, students are advised to attend a Peer2Peer session. If you are still experiencing issues after that, then the Q-Step Stats Helpdesk is on hand to support you.

Peer2Peer:

- Student-led “drop-in clinic”

- Sessions will resume in mid-October, Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs from 16.30 - 18.30, in the Clayden lab. 

The start date will be confirmed shortly.

No booking required.

 

Stats helpdesk:

 - 20 minute appointment with a dedicated Q-Step TA

The helpdesk will be available again on Tuesdays, 16:00-18:00, during term time (from week commencing 03 October to week commencing 12 December 2023), in the Clayden Meeting room.

Dissertation tools

Resources to support students in writing an original dissertation with elements of quantitative data analysis. Such a dissertation is a compulsory part of each of the Q-Step BSc degrees (in Politics, Sociology or Criminology). These resources can be accessed by visiting the Q-Step ELE Page.

 

Methods Matter

'Methods Matter' is a video series aimed at supporting teaching and learning quantitative methods in politics. On each of these videos, a social science researcher describes step-by-step how they approached the statistical analysis in one of their seminal papers, and explains the results obtained.

Course pack (Coming soon)

A compilation of course materials including abstracts, keywords and essential commands, as well as exercises based on particular datasets for each of the Q-Step Programme’s core modules: Introduction to Social Data, and Data Analysis in the Social Sciences I & II (see also under Proficiency in Social Data Science).

National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM) materials

National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM) provides training activities that ensure wide geographic and subject expertise diversity. University of Exeter is undertaking the development and production of new online training content in order to contribute to NCRM’s target to expand its portfolio of Online Learning Resources. These resources can be accessed by visiting the Q-Step ELE Page.
