Research-led teaching

Teaching is strongly influenced by the research expertise of PPGG members. For undergraduate years 1 and 2 we introduce core concepts of the discipline and for year 3 graduates and postgraduate taught, our teaching is research led and guided by staff members’ expertise. Specialist modules cover topics including gender and policy, behavioural public policy, media regulation, environmental policy, British politics, religion and policy, democracy in the European Union, political advisors in policy making and citizen deliberation in public policy.

As well introducing the cutting-edge research literature, members of the PPGG use innovative approaches to teaching and assessment including simulations, problem-based learning and case studies.

At postgraduate taught level, the Masters in Public Administration is designed for students who have experience working in public policy widely defined. The course combines up-to-date research literature with practical focused analysis of case studies and governance problems. As well as introductory modules covering administration and governance and public policy other options include behavioural public policy, environmental policy, gender and leadership.

The MSc in Global Governance is more suited for students at the start of their careers.  The programme is a pathway to a range of academic and non-academic careers, but is particularly suitable for individuals who hope to pursue international careers as policy makers, evidence providers, policy analysts, political and policy advisers, advocacy workers, public management consultants and administrators in the wide array of international, national, local, state and non-state organisations involved in addressing global problems.
